SIDM09: PLOD by Srdjan Mandic & Galerija 12+

PLOD (“fruit”) is a built-in wall lamp designed by a young Belgrade native, Srdjan Mandic in cooperation with Galerija 12+. After the light is switched on, the bulbs start growing and appearing from within the wall. Once switched off, the spheres return to their original shape. A control mechanism inside the wall controls the pressure of the air pumps and the lights. (more…)

SIDM09: Optone Waft by Tsutomu Mutoh

Optone Waft is one of the four lamp prototypes (the other three are Coila, Spinner and Flaska) designed by Tsutomu Mutoh and exhibited for the very first time here in Milan, at Salone Satellite. It is also the one we liked the most. Optone lamp series are designed to enrich your living space through dynamic color adaptation combined with swinging and rotation. Gallery after the jump. SIDM09: The three baskets of knowledge by David Trubridge

This lighting installation, on show for the very first time right here in Milan, took its inspiration from the mythology of the New Zealand Maori. The baskets are not entirely sustainable, but the designers claim they are working toward better solutions. (more…)

SIDM09: Aldabra’s Kaleydos

The effect Aldabra’s Kaleydos left on us is hard to describe. This monstruous video wall is made of 50×50 cm modules which are in turn composed of up to 4000 LEDs per square meter each. The diffusers come in different materials and finishes, and any number of modules can be connected, letting you combine soft, hard (dot) or crystal effects on enormous surfaces. (more…)
