Sputnik by Sander Mulder
Dutch Designer Sander Mulder has hit upon a novel way to design furniture.
The Sputnik coffee table has cleverly been made from one piece of aluminum that is CNC milled and folded by hand! There are no welds or other constructional elements.
The triangulated lines are inspired by Origami techniques from the past and are quite effortlessly transposed from the paper to the aluminum sheet. This triangular form also helps to give rigidity to the table and despite the apparent lack of supporting structure the sturdiness is said to surprise time and time again. The finishing on the table is a simple powder coat which comes in a verity of RAL colours.
The sputnik coffee table is bound to make a statement in any living room.
