Plateau lounge chair by Erik Magnussen | Minimalist Industrial design | FurnitureMore news from Denmark. The Plateau lounge chair, designed by Erik Magnussen for Engelbrechts and introduced by the Danish manufacturer just recently, got its name due to the wide flat armrest that leaves enough space for a Dry Martini, a remote control or even a laptop.

The 1.2m tall chair’s shell is made of 15 mm cold foam on hard MDI foam, resting on a highly polished aluminum base with automatic return or free turn swivel. Erik Magnussen found his inspiration for Plateau’s organic shape in the shape of his own left hand, where his thumb inspired the chair’s plateau and the other fingers the backrest.

The chair’s challenging design led to new production processes that minimize sewing, which is why the chair is covered in only two pieces of textile or leather.
