Designing in Teheran: iodicearchitetti
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past twenty days or so, you should be well aware of what the capital of Iran and its people have been going through lately. We won’t get into politics. Instead, we’re bringing some good news from the city of Teheran (a.k.a. Tehran).

“Designing in Teheran” is an international competition organized by the Benetton group (United Colors of Benetton) and open to creatives, designers and architects, who are called upon to develop a design for two multistorey buildings, called simply A and B. Giuseppe Iodice and his iodicearchitetti came in third with their proposal for project A.

The silent, giant monolithic structure, strongly influenced by the orographic studies of the high mountain ranges in Teheran, breaks open to reveal “an inner reality which is very dynamic and thundering”.

Before reaching the ground, the angular volume tapers at its base, appearing as sinking into the ground like a rock (the word “Teheran” itself means “going down”) and creating a “great sculpturesque point of view, a sort of intuition to enter for the people passing through this place.”

I saw the other projects too. This is definitely my favorite!
