A tale of heroes: Young Serbian Designers
Growing up in harsh, war-ridden 1990s (and being intellectually isolated from the rest of the world) doesn’t leave much room for creative development. We’d like you to meet Serbia’s first big step on the international design scene, officially titled Young Serbian Designers (YSD).
A logical extension of the Ghost Project (an annual review of the Serbian domestic design talent), YSD got its big chance at this year’s Salone Satellite, Salone Internazionale del Mobile’s young talent zone. Mikser, a Serbian cultural organization, and the jury presided over by its honorary member and a world renowned name in industrial design, Konstantin Grcic, chose 10 pieces (out of 148 applications) to be featured at the Salone.

If you followed our Salone coverage, then you already know one of the Serbian youngsters – Srdjan Mandic. We wrote about his PLOD back in April (as a matter of fact, if you look closely, you’ll also notice an armchair by Natasa Ilincic and Jugoslava Kljakic in one of the pictures).
To give you just a taste of the 10 selected designs, we’ll present here a couple of our favorites. Coincidentally, they were both designed by a team called od – do architects. We don’t want to discriminate against the other designers, so we urge you to visit the website or check out the direct links to the selected works below for more.
