This lighting installation, on show for the very first time right here in Milan, took its inspiration from the mythology of the New Zealand Maori. The baskets are not entirely sustainable, but the designers claim they are working toward better solutions. (more…)
The effect Aldabra’s Kaleydos left on us is hard to describe. This monstruous video wall is made of 50×50 cm modules which are in turn composed of up to 4000 LEDs per square meter each. The diffusers come in different materials and finishes, and any number of modules can be connected, letting you combine soft, hard (dot) or crystal effects on enormous surfaces.
Södra has been producing and doing research into pulp for over 50 years, they say. The result is DuraPulp, a combination of pulp and PLA, an oil free plastic based on maize starch. This material is used to create Parupu, a children’s chair which is as light as if it were made of paper, but as durable as a plastic one and 100% compostable.
It’s not like we’re such huge fans of Veuve Clicquot, but it was the likes of Karim Rashid and Porsche Design that got our attention here.
We have to be honest with you. This is really not what we expected to see here in Milan. Exhibited as a “prototipo non definitivo”, Ciclotte is everything you ever wanted from an exercise bike. We expect to see it in production soon. We also hope we‚Äôll be able to afford one.
